
Russia: ‘New milestone in history of Russia’ - Putin on Crimea’s reunification
Russian President Vladimir Putin met with members of the public in Simferopol, Monday, as part of his visit to Crimea as the peninsula celebrates the fifth-anniversary of reunification with Russia.
“It is a new milestone in the history of Russia,” the Russian leader said on the reunification of Crimea, adding “it showed to ourselves and to the whole world that Russia can love itself and can protect its interests.”
He went on saying that the 2014 Referendum and the following reunification was based “on the interests of people, this is the most important.”
A referendum on Crimea's status took place on March 16, 2014. The final results showed that 96.77 percent voted in favour of Crimea seceding from Ukraine and becoming part of the Russian Federation.
