
Russia: Putin greets veterans at Crimea's Malakhov Kurgan memorial
Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted war veterans and laid a wreath at the Malakhov Kurgan memorial in Sevastopol on Monday as Crimea celebrates the fifth anniversary of reunification with Russia.
The memorial is dedicated to the soldiers who defended the city during the Crimean War in 1854-1855 and the Great Patriotic War (WWII) in 1941-1944.
Earlier the Russian leader launched two new thermal power plants in Sevastopol.
In a referendum held in 2014, 96.7 percent of Crimeans and 95.6 percent of Sevastopol residents voted in favour of joining the Russian Federation.
