Syria: IS last stand rolls on in Baghouz
The battle for Baghouz, the last piece of territory controlled by militants of the self-proclaimed Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), appears to be nearing its end on Friday.
US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) were filmed shelling targets in the area, a collection of hamlets and farmland near the Iraqi border.
The last remnants of IS are refusing to surrender, despite being outgunned, outmanned and surrounded.
The attack on IS's final stronghold has been periodically paused since it began on March 1 to allow thousands of civilians, many of them reportedly wives and children of IS fighters, to leave.
