USA: 'Absurd' to claim Trump's an unreliable trade negotiator - Sanders
White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said it was "absurd" to claim US President Donald Trump was an unreliable trade negotiator with China. She made the remarks during a press briefing in Washington DC on Monday.
Her comments follow media reports that China is wary of organising a meeting between the US and Chinese presidents. Beijing is reportedly concerned at Trump's reliability as a negotiating partner following the breakdown of talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Vietnam.
"I would say that's absurd. The president's going to make a deal if it's a good deal. He's going to make a deal if it's in the best interest of America. And if he doesn't feel like it's a good deal it's not worth just signing a piece of paper," Sanders said.
She also commented on allegations by Trump that the Democrats were becoming an "anti-Jewish party" following comments on Israel by U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar that many colleagues deemed to be anti-Semitic.
"The remarks that have been made by a number of Democrats and failed to be called out by Democrat leadership is frankly abhorrent and it's sad and it's something that should be called by name," Sanders said.
