A prototype of a flying taxi by Airbus was put on display for the public in Ingolstadt on Monday.

The premiere of the electric-powered ‘CityAirbus’ was attended by the Mayor of Ingolstadt Dr. Christian Loesel, German Minister for Traffic and Digital Infrastructure Andreas Scheuer, German Minister for Digital Solutions Dorothee Baer as well as the CEO of Airbus Helicopters Germany, Dr. Wolfgang Schoder.

In a speech, Schoder said that flying taxis were no longer just a dream of the future.

"Air taxis are definitely not games or science fiction anymore. Everyone is aware that mobility, air mobility, will bring added value to every one of us," he said.

The concept vehicle comes with four seats and eight rotors and is expected to be able to travel up to 120km/h (75mph).

German Minister for Traffic and Digital Infrastructure Andreas Scheuer speculated that the concept would be of particular value to first responders, police and emergency doctors, with its ability to bypass traffic on the ground.
