
Russia: Relatives and fans cheer on their teams at Canada-Russia hockey clash
Families from Russia and Canada visited Krasnoyarsk's Pervomaysky arena to cheer on their children during Canada-Russia women's hockey clash on Friday.
Grandmother of Russian hockey player Alina Starovoytova recounted how Alina started off with figure skating, and then transferred to bandy and hockey.
Canadian hockey player Tricia Van Vaerenbergh's parents also visited the match. Her mother said they are really glad they managed to get in and watch the clash. Van herself on her turn said she was watching how the International Women's Day is celebrated in Russia. "With the flowers in the village it was nice to, kind of, be appreciated and see the holiday and how you, guys, are celebrating. It's pretty awesome," she concluded.
The Russian women's ice hockey team won 4:2 in the group A Universiade quarterfinal. Later on Russia is to meet team USA for the semifinals.
The 2019 Winter Universiade is an international student and youth competition which is set to finish on 12 March. This is the first time the event has taken place in Russia.
