Germany: Maas maintains support for Guaido after German ambassador's expulsion
German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas confirmed that the expulsion of German Ambassador Daniel Kriener from Venezuela will not push Germany to reconsider its support for Venezuelan Opposition Leader Juan Guaido, while speaking at a meeting with Croatian counterpart Marija Pejcinovic Buric in Berlin on Thursday.
"This will in no way lead to us reconsidering our support for Juan Guaido as interim president, with the mandate to organise free, fair and independent elections, anyway. This support is irrefutable, and it will stay this way" Maas said.
Venezuela's Foreign Ministry declared Kriener persona non grata on Wednesday, claiming that the ambassador had interfered in the country's affairs and gave him 48 hours to leave Venezuela.
Maas made the comments as he and Buric signed a bilateral action plan in Berlin.
