Russia: Japanese ice hockey team 'exhausted' after Russia Universiade defeat

Japanese student ice hockey team goalkeeper Yujiro Isobe said his side was "exhausted" following their 10-1 defeat to Russia at the 2019 Winter Universiade compeition, in Krasnoyarsk on Sunday.

"I am really glad that I managed to play in Russia. On the other hand, the Russian players turned out to be really strong, we all are exhausted," he said.

Russian student team manager Vyacheslav Khromykh admitted during the press conference that his side "still have something to work on."

Russia are currently leading Group A and are now scheduled to meet the US team on March 5.

The 2019 Winter Universiade is an international student and youth competition, which takes place from March 2-12, 2019, in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. This is the first time the event has taken place in Russia.
