
Russia: 3,000 athletes, 'it's like a whole big army' – Putin visits Universiade-2019
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Universiade's Main Operation Center in Krasnoyarsk on Sunday, to check on the work progress during the second day of the biggest student and youth sports event in Russia.
Talking to Universiade's main Operation Center employees, the Russian leader made a joke about possible changes to the competition schedule, saying "I don't mean changing the results, just the organisation structure."
Putin then met with the Russian team and congratulated the Universiade participants at the start of the sports event. "You all are going to show us outstanding results and bright victories, we all and yourself will be proud of it."
The Russian leader stated that Winter Universiade-2019 is a massive event, that may be compared to the Winter Olympic games. Three thousand representatives from 58 countries came to the Siberian city of Krasnoyarsk. "3,000 participants, it is like a whole big army," Putin quipped.
The Russian leader also joined audience members to watch the skiing competitions within Winter Universiade-2019.
The 2019 Winter Universiade is an international student and youth competition, which is scheduled to take place from 2-12 March, 2019, in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk. This is the first time the event takes place in Russia.
