USA: NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar auctions off 4 championship rings
Four out of six National Football Association (NBA) championship rings owned by former Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar have gone under the hammer at Goldin Auctions in Runnemede, New Jersey on Friday.
The four rings, which correspond with 1980, 1985, 1987 and 1988 Lakers NBA championship wins are made out of 14-carat gold and are adorned with diamonds.
"I think the 1985 ring is the most special as that was the first time that the Lakers had beat the Celtics in the NBA finals," said Controller at Goldin Auctions Frank DiNote.
The profits from the sale of the rings and other memorabilia will go toward Abdul-Jabbar 's Skyhook Foundation, which brings science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) opportunities to underserved children.
