UN: ‘This is a project of recolonisation of Latin America’ – Venezuelan UN Rep.
Venezuelan Ambassador to the United Nations Samuel Moncada accused some members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) of aiming to recolonise Latin America after a UNSC meeting in New York City on Thursday.
"They behave like colonialists. I'm saying, this is a project of recolonisation of Latin America because they're not just going after Venezuela. They are saying openly that they are going after Nicaragua, after Cuba, after Bolivia, after Suriname. I mean, they have a list of countries," Moncada said.
Moncada went on to accuse some members of the UNSC of hypocrisy.
"Some countries come here and they speak about their concern for the Venezuelan people and at the same time simultaneously they are thieving, pillaging and ransacking our reserves and bank accounts around the world," stressed Moncada.
Moncada added that "they are weaponising humanitarian aid with an ideology, messianic ideology, racist ideology of they themselves thinking that they can save our people instead of our own people."
Earlier that day rival Russian and US resolutions concerning Venezuelan crisis were both rejected during UNSC voting.
