Colombia: Demonstrators clash with Venezuelan police on border bridge
Demonstrators clashed with Venezuelan riot police on the Colombian side of the Simon Bolivar International Bridge, amid an attempt to bring US-backed humanitarian aid across the border on Saturday.
Footage shows demonstrators throwing objects at police and tear gas being employed.
At the request of opposition leader and self-declared interim president of Venezuela Juan Guaido, the aid brought by US military planes has been stockpiled in the border town of Cucuta and is expected to be carried across the border by a number of Venezuelan volunteers.
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has stated that the aid is nothing but a US plot to disguise an intervention in Venezuela. It is uncertain if the aid will be allowed to cross the border.
