Holy See: Clerical sexual abuse summit presented in Vatican City
A summit called by Pope Francis to approach clerical sexual abuse was presented in Vatican City on Monday, three days before its beginning.
More than 100 senior Roman Catholic bishops are reportedly expected to gather in the Holy See for the "Protection of Minors in the Church" Meeting, which will take place from Thursday to Sunday.
"The three days will be dedicated, the first one to responsibility, the second to accountability, the third to transparency. These are values, these are important aspects of good government, of good stewardship when you come to prevention of abuse and safeguarding of our children, said Adjunct Secretary of Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith Archbishop Charles J. Scicluna during a press conference in the Holy See Press Office.
One of the meeting's most important concerns, Scicluna said, was guaranteeing the "paramount principle of making Church and Church experience a safe place for young people." Scicluna went on to quote Pope John Paul II in saying "'there is no place in the priesthood or religious life for anybody who would harm the young.'"
The meeting is expected to be the first to engage all the Presidents of Episcopal Conferences and authorities for religious orders worldwide.
