Afghanistan: Protesters decry US airstrikes in Laghman Province
Hundreds marched in Mehtar Lam, Laghman Province on Wednesday, demanding an end to the prolonged conflict and airstrikes in the country and the complete withdrawal of US forces.
While marching, the protesters chanted various slogans, such as "death to America" and "God is great."
A disabled protester named Khan remarked, "I am disabled because of war. Death to the Americans who bombarded our country for a prolonged period as well, as I lost my leg in Laghman province."
Another protester, Bismillah Watandost, added, "Unfortunately America targets two to three Taliban members in the city, killing more than 200 civilians by airstrikes. America targets the Taliban in a village where later over 100 civilians' corpses were found."
"We want peace. We want to stop the American airstrikes on our villages and cities. We want to stop the killing of innocent people across our country and we are tired of killings and conflicts," said Alem, a third protester.
On February 5th, a round of intra-Afghan talks were held in Moscow, where one of the key talking points was the issue of a US troop withdrawal from Afghanistan. The meeting was organised by the Council of Afghan Society - an organisation representing the Afghan diaspora in Russia.
