An eyewitness gave his personal account of how a Yellow Vest protester lost his hand after allegedly handling a police grenade during Saturday's march in Paris.
Yellow vest protester Cyprien Royer said that the injured man was observing how a group of people dressed in black were forcing their way into the National Assembly. According to Royer, police then arrived and started to throw grenades.
"One grenade flew right under his feet, he tried to instinctively throw it away by his hand, punched it and it went off," Royer detailed.
"He held onto us. We took him to the wall where there were no people. He was screaming, he was in such a state. We called the 'street medics,' many people came. At first, they did not even understand that his hand was blown off, they thought it was just an injury," Royer said.
The Yellow Vest protest is marking its thirteenth consecutive week in a row.
According to the French Interior Ministry, a total of 51,400 people participated in Saturday's Yellow Vest protests with some 4,000 marching in Paris.
