Germany: Casey Affleck gets '#MeToo' question at Berlinale Q&A
Casey Affleck said his new film Light of My Life was somewhat influenced by the #MeToo movement, in response to a question from a journalist at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival on Friday.
He said the film was conceived before the #MeToo movement took off in 2017 in response to accusations of sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry.
But he added: "I think everyone out there has had to some sort of self-reckoning, and think about culturally what part they play and how they can play a positive role. No matter how much they want to think of themselves as one of the good guys."
Affleck, the younger brother of fellow actor and director Ben Affleck, was himself accused of sexual harassment by female crew members on an earlier film. The two lawsuits were settled out of court. His lawyer denied the accusations at the time.
Light of My Life - written, directed by, and starring Affleck - debuted at the Berlinale and is a apocalyptic drama set about a father-daughter relationship in a society without women where gender roles have to be renegotiated.
