Germany: Police make arrests as Kurdish 'Long March' reaches Cologne

Police arrested at least one Kurdish marcher in Cologne on Friday, who was a part of a Kurdish group undertaking a so-called 'Long March' from Bonn to Dusseldorf, to mark the 20th anniversary of the arrest of Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan and call for his release.

Footage from the incident shows the arrest was being made on the plateau in front of the main railway station, next to the cathedral. The police are filmed manhandling the protester, and bringing him on the ground before arresting him.

Ocalan was arrested by the Turkish secret service in Nairobi, Kenya, on February 15th, 1999. He is currently serving an aggravated life imprisonment sentence in Turkey.
