
Germany: Bag abandoned after attempted robbery prompts evacuation of Berlin mall
A suspicious bag left behind after an attempted bank robbery prompted the evacuation of a mall in the Neukolln neighbourhood of Berlin on Thursday evening.
According to the Twitter account of the Berlin Police, an unidentified man is said to have entered a bank inside the mall and demanded money. As the employees rang the alarm, the man fled, dropping his sports bag behind him.
The entire mall was evacuated and police explosives specialists were immediately dispatched to x-ray the bag, which was soon deemed harmless.
After two hours, the police removed their blockades in the surrounding streets and the mall reopened its doors to the public.
