Russian Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova expressed her fondness for all things Japanese ahead of March championships in the country, during an interview in Moscow on Tuesday. She made the comments after signing an advertising contract with sportswear manufacturer Puma.

“When I came to Japan for the first time, I liked this country at once. The atmosphere there is so warm and cosy. All the people are calm,” she said, adding that she felt she could live there for a year or two, but not much longer because she is a "patriot."

Zagitova took gold in the ladies' single figure skating competition at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Gangneung, South Korea.

The 2019 World Figure Skating Championships will be held in Japan from March 18.
