France: Injured prominent Yellow Vests activist says he was shot in the eye
Jerome Rodrigues, a prominent activist in the Yellow Vests movement, described on Sunday the events during which he received a bad injury to his eye in a Saturday protest in Paris.
“I was attacked twice by the police: a grenade which blew up near my feet, deafening me and stunning me, and three seconds later I was hit with an LBD-40 [rubber bullet] which struck me in the eye," Rodrigues said during a press conference in the French capital.
Rodrigues, one of the figureheads of the Yellow Vests movement in France, was rushed to Hospital Cochin in Paris, where he was treated for an open wound to his eyeball. It is unknown if he will ever see from that eye again.
Officials have stated they believe the injury was caused by the sting grenade, which launches small rubber balls in every direction upon detonation, and not by a rubber bullet directly fired at him.
