Italy: Berlusconi confirms he will run for European Parliament
Politician and former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi visited the central Italian city of L'Aquila on Saturday, in a bid to support his political party's candidate at the local mayoral elections and to mark the 25th anniversary of Forza Italia.
Berlusconi also confirmed his intention to stand for the European parliament at the upcoming European elections in May.
"Europe must change, towards two directions. First, in its internal organisation: stop to a Europe of bureaucrats, bookkeepers, accountants, and austerity. We need to come back to the initial project of Schuman, Adenauer, De Gasperi, who wanted to reach the united states of Europe", he said.
The three-time Prime Minister mentioned also the migrants' crisis, saying that the only way to prevent migrants from leaving Africa would be treaties and a Marshall Plan.
