Russia: Man interrogated over attempted hijacking of Aeroflot flight
Investigators questioned the man who tried to hijack an Aeroflot flight from Surgut to Moscow, in Khanty-Mansiysk on Wednesday.
Russian Investigative Committee said that the suspect, 41-year-old Surgut resident Pavel Shapovalov, underwent a number of medical tests, with the results showing that he was not under the influence of alcohol or psychotropic substances during the flight.
He will also undergo a psychiatric evaluation to assess his mental fitness.
Shapovalov was detained on Tuesday following his attempts to hijack Aeroflot flight SU 1515 by breaking into the cockpit, claiming that he was armed.
The plane landed in the Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiysk after the crew reportedly managed to convince the hijacker that the aircraft needed refuelling.
The Boeing 737 had 69 passengers and seven crew members on board as the incident occurred.
