Mexico: Lopez Obrador announces anti-poverty measures to combat fuel theft
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador announced a series of social programmes to fight fuel theft, during a speech in Acambay on Tuesday. The new measures will be implemented in some of the country's poorest areas after an explosion killed at least 93 people during a suspected pipeline tap.
It is believed that thieves drilled through the Tula-Tuxpan pipeline causing a large jet of fuel to rise into the air.
Once the news of the ruptured pipeline spread, local people rushed to fill their containers and were engulfed in an inferno.
