Lebanon: Qatari Emir arrives in Beirut for Arab Economic Summit
Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was greeted by Lebanese President Michel Aoun at Beirut's Rafic Hariri International Airport on Sunday, ahead of his attendance at the Arab Economic and Development Summit in the Lebanese capital.
Qatar is one of only two nations to be sending heads of state to the conference after 20 countries reportedly announced that they would send lower-level representatives instead. The emir of Kuwait and the Egyptian and Palestinian presidents reportedly withdrew their participation at the last minute.
The summit, a prelude to the Arab League summit to be held in Tunis on March 31, is seeking to advance cooperation between states in the region on several economic fronts.
