Devil in disguise! Too 'friendly' devil statue to be installed in Spanish Segovia
A controversial statue of devil will be installed in the Spanish city of Segovia, after a judge dismissed complaints from those offended by its look, Friday.
The statue became famous after over 5.500 locals signed a petition against representation of the devil "jokingly, with a mobile phone in his hand," saying that it is "offensive to Catholics."
Now, as the complaint was dismissed, the statue is expected to be erected next week.
The statue's sculptor, Jose Antonio Abella said that he never wanted this kind of fame and his main wish is that "the sculpture gets to its place that the people who pass by will smile and take a selfie with it, which was my only intention."
Local's opinion seemed divided, though those who supported the installation prevailed.
The devil will be placed 200 meters away from Aqueduct of Segovia. As the legend tells, the devil was the one who built this aqueduct in one night.
