Police faced off with protesters as 'Yellow Vest' demonstrators hit the streets of Saint-Nazaire on Saturday.

In the morning, around 500 protesters blocked the bridge into St. Nazaire, according to reports. After an hour of the blockade, police dispersed the demonstrators with tear gas. Afterwards, protesters gathered in the city centre.

The Yellow Vest movement emerged after French President Emmanuel Macron announced a fuel tax hike to encourage a transition towards greener energy.

The French government has now suspended the price hikes but the protests continue nevertheless.
