US President Donald Trump showed off a letter purporting to be from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at a cabinet meeting at the White House on Wednesday, while characterising the relationship between his administration and the Hermit Kingdom as "very good".

After describing the situation as having been "rough for a while" between the two countries, Trump showed the press a sheet of paper he claimed to be a letter from the North Korean leader, saying, "I'd frankly love to read it".

As for the prospects of his newfound rapport with Kim, the president simply stated, "Time will tell."

The Trump administration partially restored diplomatic relations with North Korea in 2018 culminating in a historic summit in Singapore, the first-ever meeting between the leaders of both countries.
