Syria: Syrian Army announces entry of SAA units to Manbij
The Syrian Army announced on Friday that Syrian government forces had entered the northern city of Manbij, close to the border with Turkey, following calls from the Kurdish YPG to protect the strategic location.
"Considering the Arab Army’s duty and in a response to a call by the people of Manbij, the Syrian general staff announces that the Army has entered Manbij and raised the flag of the Syrian Arab Republic there," General Ali Mayhoub said in a statement from Damascus.
He also stressed that Damascus is determined to "crush terrorism and defeat all invaders and occupiers" in order to protect all Syrian citizens.
The move comes after Turkey ramped up troops on its southern border.
