USA: Jones and Gustafsson exchange insults ahead of UFC 232 clash
The history of substance abuse by former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and a sudden change of venue for the 232 UFC light heavyweight title clash between Jones and Alexander Gustafsson were the topics of a heated UFC pre-fight presser in Los Angeles on Thursday.
Gustafsson accused Jones of being "a cheater" and said "he has to put shit in his body to be confident, that's how he is."
Jones hit back at the Swede, saying "I think this is so funny that the person who lost is making an excuse of a microscopic chemical instead of just saying Jon Jones' balls are way bigger than mine."
"You said the same shit before you got knocked out before your whole country. Shut the fuck up," Jones added.
UFC president Dana White however gave his blessing to the fight saying, "It is what it is, you know, if we did this fight in March, we'd be talking about the same things."
UFC 232, the last of 2018, will also see women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes rise up and challenge featherweight champion Cris Cyborg.
"This is for the baddest woman on the planet, 135 versus 145, both champions, two of the baddest woman in the world,” White said as he confirmed the fight would be the biggest female MMA fight in history.
The event was moved from Las Vegas to Los Angeles just six days before fight night due to complications caused after a drug test by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) showed a "residual amount" of a steroid in Jones’s body, which he had already been penalized for in 2017. According to reports, the unusual result kept the Nevada State Athletic Commission from licensing the fight on time, which necessitated the move to Los Angeles.
