USA: Government partially shuts down over border wall dispute
Tourists in residents in Washington D.C. felt the effects of the US Government shutdown on Saturday, as the deadline for the shutdown passed at midnight.
“Well there is no doubt in my mind that President Trump is to blame. And he said that he would shut it down and he has,” One tourist said.
Another echoed her remarks, stating: “I am disappointed that we came from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to visit these archives and we get down here to this entrance end and it says the sign says closed. I guess we can thank our president for that."
Until the decision on a spending bill is reached, some federal agencies will remain closed. Roughly 420,000 federal employees will be forced to work without pay and 380,000 will stay home and not get paid as Christmas approaches.
Meanwhile, all National Parks and museums are also affected by the shutdown. In the US capital Washington D.C, the Smithsonian Museums, National Zoo and National Mall monuments have announced that they will remain open to the public until at least January 1st.
