Spain: PM Sanchez and Catalan President Torra meet in bid to end deadlock
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez was greeted by the President of the Catalan Government Quim Torra at the Palau de Pedralbes in Barcelona on Thursday, as the pair seek to bring the political crisis caused by Catalonia's attempted secession to an end.
Protests were held outside the venue, as many Catalan secessionists do not recognise Spain's dominion and fundamentally disagree with the meeting.
Sanchez and Torra reportedly agreed that a solution to the ongoing political crisis must be found after Catalonia unilaterally declared independence last year, leading to many secessionist leaders being jailed.
The pair has also agreed to meet again in January to continue talks, according to reports.
