Mexico: Dozens arrested during mass eviction at Tijuana migrant camp
At least 24 people were detained as police attempted to evict some 200 migrants from the Benito Juarez sports complex in Tijuana in the early hours of Thursday.
The migrants were moved to a temporary shelter some 20km (12mi) away as they await the documentation required for them to enter the United States.
The tents at the complex were subsequently dismantled as five buses moved the migrants.
The official reason for the eviction is not yet known, however, locals have complained about issues in the area regarding the camp.
Regarding the arrests, Marco Antonio Sotomayor, Secretary of Public Safety in Tijuana, explained: "We had to detain 24 people who, when we arrived, did not agree to free up the public highway, there was some violence, we even detected some people using illegal drugs."
On Saturday night, two teenagers from Honduras were murdered in Tijuana, while a third suffered severe injuries in the same incident.
The murders are the first reported, although at least two other Honduran members of the Central American caravan died en route to the US border.
