USA: Republican Senator Rubio calls Syria withdrawal 'major blunder'
Republican Senator Marco Rubio for Florida slammed US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the country's troops from Syria, while speaking on the Senate floor in Washington D.C. on Thursday.
In his speech, Rubio described the withdrawal as a "major blunder" which, according to him, could trigger a broader conflict in the region. He also warned that the move could be used as evidence that America is an unreliable partner.
"We have surrendered our influence in the outcome of this conflict in Syria. At some point nations are going to sit down and figure out what Syria looks like moving forward. And we will have zero-role to play in it. It will be decided by the Turks, the Russians and primarily the Iranians and Assad," Rubio added.
US President Donald Trump announced the withdrawal of US troops from Syria on Wednesday, declaring that the US had defeated the ISIS.
