Italy: Mount Etna eruption spews lava and gas into night sky *TIMELAPSE*
Italy's highest volcano Mount Etna in Catania erupted in the early hours of Wednesday, spewing lava and plumes of gas into the sky.
Footage shows the eruption of Mount Etna's Southeast Crater.
The eruption has not prompted evacuations on the island; however, there have been dangerous explosions in recent years, with the March 2017 eruption injuring 10 people.
Explosive activity reportedly persists at Southeast Crater's eastern vent. The Bocca Nuova and Cratere di Nordest craters are believed to be active as well.
Etna, which is the largest of Italy's three active volcanoes and the biggest in Europe, sits at 3,330 metres high (11,000 ft).
