UN: Pompeo calls on UNSC to 'get serious' on Iran
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urged the United Nations Security Council to "get serious about this real risk from proliferation from the Iranian regime," speaking to the press after a UNSC meeting on non-proliferation at the UN headquarters in New York City on Wednesday.
"Now it's time for this Security Council to get serious about this real risk from proliferation from the Iranian regime," Pompeo said after criticising the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JPCOA).
"We're going to work with a coalition to build out a set of responses that deliver deterrence against Iran and its continued proliferation of ballistic missiles," Pompeo added.
Pompeo also touched down on Saudi Arabia, saying it "delivered American security in important ways in President Trump's first two years in office, and we intend to continue to work with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to keep America safe."
During the UNSC meeting, Pompeo called on the Security Council to reimpose missile restrictions on Tehran and to preserve an arms embargo on Iran in 2020.
