USA: George HW Bush casket transported to Washington ahead of state funeral

Former US President George H.W. Bush was transported from the family Funeral Home in Houston to Ellington Field airport by motorcade, en route to be flown to Washington DC on Monday.

Members of his family, including his son and former Governor of Florida Jeb Bush, attended the ceremony. The honorary pallbearers for the first movement of the presidential remains were members of President Bush’s Secret Service detachment.

George H.W. Bush succeeded Ronald Reagan to become the 41st US President in 1988 after beating his Democratic opponent Michael Dukakis, overseeing pivotal historic moments during his four-year-tenure such as the collapse of the Soviet Bloc and the fall of the Berlin Wall. He died at age 94 following a steady decline in his health.
