USA: Judge does not release details about apparent 'Assange charge'
A federal judge at the Albert V. Bryan District Court did not make a decision on whether to unseal an apparent criminal charge against WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange in Alexandria, VA on Tuesday.
Prosecutors claim that the general public has no right to know whether or not Assange has been charged unless there is an arrest, while others say that information regarding the 47-year-old Australian is in the public's interest.
"I think the public interest certainly weights in favour of disclosure we will have to see how the court rule comes out," said Katie Townsend, Litigation Director at the Reporters' Committee for Freedom of the Press.
It has been reported that Assange is facing charges which have not been revealed to the public after prosecutors apparently mentioned the case inadvertently.
