Footage filmed in Gaza City on Thursday shows the youths, many of them amputees, attending courses at the Islamic University of Gaza that offers specialised vocational training for those who were wounded in the 'Great March of Return' protests.

According to project coordinator Tarek Al-Habash, the training lasts four months, where students with disabilities are trained in different specialisations, allowing them to become "active members of society" and giving them the necessary practical experience.

Habash noted that the project aims to help students with disabilities hone individual skills, depending on the nature of their injuries.

Many students said that they were happy about the training because it offers them more work opportunities as they are now unable to do their previous jobs. One of the students taking the course, Ali Sawan, said that prior to the incident, "I was working in the cooling and conditioning [industry], but now I cannot work there because it needs lifting and working on the ladder, and I cannot perform that work."

Another student, Mahmoud Khader, noted, "I was working in the building materials shop. After my injury, I could no longer work there. At the time, I received a call from the collaboration institution Irada (Arabic for 'determination'). They told me that there is a training course in the maintenance of mobiles, and that I can choose the course that I want."

Students are reportedly trained in five specialisations, including the programming and maintenance of smart technologies, the maintenance of electric pumps, carpentry and production of aluminium products.
