
Ecuador: Students strike over education budget cuts in Quito
Thousands of students organised a collective walkout on Monday to protest budget cuts totalling $145 million (€127 million) targeting the higher education sector.
The march began at Plaza Indoamerica, before ending outside Carondelet Palace, the seat of the Ecuadorian government.
One protester described the budget cuts as "neoliberal structural adjustment" which "will affect hundreds and thousands of students"
The cuts forms part of Ecuador President Lenin Moreno fiscal reform programme, known as 'Proforma 2019'.
