Spokesperson for the German Foreign Ministry Christofer Burger responded to media questions during a government press conference in Berlin on Friday about the developments in the investigation into the murder of Jamal Khashoggi.

Burger reiterated Germany's stance on the investigation saying: "The killing of Jamal Khashoggi has to be completely and thoroughly clarified. And we have made it clear that we strongly condemn this offence and we expect that those responsible will be held accountable."

On Thursday, the Saudi Deputy Public Prosecutor Shalaan Al-Shalaan reported that Khashoggi was killed via a lethal injection in Saudi Arabia's consulate in Istanbul on October 2nd, after which his body was dismembered and removed from the consulate. The Saudi prosecution has convicted 11 people in relation to the case and sentenced five people to death.

Burger condemned the incident and, while recognising developments in the investigation, he stated that questions still haven't been answered. "Yesterday we saw that there is a development. That is a first step but there are still many open questions, just as before," Burger said.
