UK: May 'will see through' Brexit deal despite cabinet resignations

UK Prime Minister Theresa May told the press she will 'see through' the Brexit agreement, at a press conference in London on Thursday, following a day of top cabinet ministers' resignations.

"I believe that this is a deal which does deliver that which is in the national interest," May said, adding that she is "going to see it through."

The Prime Minister said that she "put the national interest first" not her political one and added that she doesn't "judge harshly those of my colleagues who seek to do the same but who reach a different conclusion," expressing her regret over the resignations of her ministers.

She went on by stating the benefits of the agreement and by admitting that the most "tough decision" was the backstop on Ireland.

However, May swiftly added that "nobody has produced any alternative proposal which both delivers on the referendum and also ensures that there is no hard border between Northern Ireland and Ireland."

According to Theresa May, despite voices within the House of Commons raising the issue of staying within the EU, it was the "British people" who voted to leave and it's their duty as parliament "to deliver on that vote."

Closing, May cited cricket British legend Geoffrey Boycott to describe her efforts to complete the negotiations.

"Geoffrey Boycott stuck to it and he got the runs in the end."

On Wednesday, May and the EU officials hailed a successful Brexit agreement reached. On Thursday, two Leave-backing cabinet ministers- Dominic Raab and Esther McVey- resigned over the Brexit agreement, amid a growing number of no-confidence requests by MPs.
