Footage filmed in the Sicilian town of Calsteldaccia on Sunday shows the aftermath of floods that left ten people, including a family of nine, dead.

According to the authorities, nine bodies belonging to a family, including children aged one, three and 15, were found in their house in Casteldaccia, near the Sicilian capital Palermo, on Saturday.

"Up until now, we simply know of people who were trapped inside this house by a sudden mass of water, the origin of which is yet to be understood. We have to see if it was the Milicia river that flooded or another source,” said Ambrogio Cartosio, a prosecuting attorney from the town of Termini Imerese, while visiting the scene.

Separately, another victim, a man, was reportedly found in his car while two other people are still missing.

Over the past week, Italy was hit by a series of strong storms, claiming at least 20 lives.
