Russia: ‘No reason not to believe them’ – Peskov on Saudi govt. Khashoggi statement
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that there “should be no reason not to believe” the official statements from the Saudi King and Crown Prince on the Kasshogi case. He made the comment while speaking to journalists in a conference call from Moscow on Friday.
Saudi Arabia’s King Salman spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to update him on progress with the investigation into the Saudi Arabian journalist Jamal bin Ahmad Khashoggi’s death. Saudi leaders have denied any involvement in the murder and have promised to bring the murderers to justice.
Khashoggi is believed to have been killed during an incident at the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul on October 2.
Khashoggi was known for criticising Saudi Arabian government as well as the country’s king Salman and crown prince Mohammad bin Salman. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman has come under increasing pressure to reveal the full extent of his involvement in the killing.
