Turkey: Erdogan demands Saudi answers on Khashoggi killing

Turkey, Ankara
October 26, 2018 at 14:58 GMT +00:00 · Published

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan demanded that Saudi Arabia reveals details regarding the slain journalist Jamal Khashoggi, speaking from Ankara on Friday.

"It is obvious now that he's been killed, but where is his body? You said he left the embassy. If he left it, where's the proof? There is no proof," said Erdogan.

"Finally, it was accepted that 18 people were arrested," said Erdogan. "These 18 people know who killed Jamal Khashoggi. There's no other way of explaining this. Because the perpetrator is among those individuals. If the perpetrator is not among them, then you should reveal the domestic collaborator," he added.

"Saudi Arabia cannot escape from the accusations until you've revealed all this."

Khashoggi went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 to prepare documents for his upcoming marriage, but has not been seen since. His fiancee claims to have waited outside for 11 hours but says he did not return.

Turkish officials claimed he was murdered inside while Saudi officials previously maintained that Khashoggi had left the consulate. They later reversed their position after an internal investigation, and now claim Khashoggi died as a result of a fight inside the consulate.
