
Russia: Shoigu meets with Japanese army chief
Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu met with Japanese head of Joint Headquarters Self-Defense Forces, Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano in Moscow on Monday.
"We heard you proposal and did not exploit territory of the South Kuril Islands in drills [Vostok-2018]," Shoigu said at the meeting.
Katsutoshi on his part noted that he is the first chief of the Joint Staff of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces to visit Russia "for many years". He also thanked Shoigu for the assistance delivered to Japan following the devastating 2011 earthquake.
