Germany was announced as the host country for the 2024 UEFA Football Championship, beating Turkey in a vote for the tournament, at a ceremony at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Thursday.

First acknowledging both nations as "big footballing countries", UEFA President Alexander Ceferin announced the results of a vote by the executive committee, making Germany the host of the championship for the first time since 1988.

UEFA released an evaluation report last Friday outlining areas of concern about Turkey's bid, particularly in relation to human rights, infrastructure and the country's economy.
