Germany: Graphic moment journalist dies after Hambach Forest fall
A journalist died of a suspected heart attack during a protest in Germany’s Hambach Forest on Wednesday after falling from a bridge suspended between two treehouses that was being used to block a coal mining project.
Footage shows the man falling to ground as screams echo around the forest and police rush to his aid.
Officers can be seen performing CPR on the man before he was taken to a waiting ambulance.
Hambach is currently home to dozens of activists who live in some 60 treehouses. The occupation began in 2012, when a group of activists decided to dwell in the forest to fight against the expansion of energy company RWE's open-pit coal mine, which is one of the largest in Europe.
RWE, who owns Hambach and is legally allowed to cut down trees to access coal, plans to start felling half of the forest's remaining 200 hectares in October.
