Greece: Hearing on ‘cybercriminal’ Vinnik's extradition to France postponed

The Supreme Court of Greece postponed the hearing for the Russian cybercrime suspect Alexander Vinnik’s possible extradition to France in Athens on Wednesday.

According to Vinnik's lawyer, Timofey Musatov, the hearing has been postponed until October 17.

"It gives us a chance to slightly change our tactics - from the defensive, in which we've been for the whole year, to a tactic that allows us to break down the accusation in those places, where they've been coming from," Musatov said.

"Greece is a country where we cannot appeal the decision to initiate a proceeding, to issue a search warrant, while the USA and France are the countries where the criminal prosecution of our defendant has been initiated," he explained.

Musatov also announced his decision to invite the well-known Greek lawyer and politician Zoe Konstantopoulou to represent the interests of Vinnik. "I hope that with her appearance the case will become more interesting and it will develop more vividly, in a progressive way," he said.

The former Bitcoin operator Alexander Vinnik is accused of defrauding thousands of people by launching cyberattacks and money laundering schemes through his cryptocurrency platform. He is wanted on criminal charges by the US, Russia and France.
