Passengers of Emirates Flight 203 were screened for symptoms at JFK Airport in New York City on Wednesday, after initial reports had indicated 100 falling ill during the flight.

Only ten people, three passengers and seven crew members, were subsequently admitted for further medical care after examinations conducted by workers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The cause of the illness is unclear, but the press secretary for the New York City mayor's office said on Twitter that the sickness may have been carried by passengers travelling from Mecca, which is experiencing a flu outbreak.
