Military and historical clubs from both Russia and abroad participated in the re-enactment, which took place on the 206th anniversary of the battle. French and Russian troops carried out several attacks, some with artillery.
The re-enactment took place as part of the International Military Historical Festival, dubbed Borodino Day. The festival is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of September, with the support of the Russian military-historical society.
The battle of Borodino was the largest battle between the Russian army and the army of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte in the War of 1812. It lasted for 12 hours and is considered one of the bloodiest battles in the war - estimated to have killed at least about 70 thousand people.
